There are two things that I now know for sure: 1- British Prime Minister David Cameron is as confused as the rest of us on what we should call Kate and 2 – Maternity fashion is not going to be a problem for Duchess Catherine.
On her first royal event since being hospitalized with hyperemesis gravidarum, Kate looked as perfect and as on point as we have grown accustomed to. The pregnancy and her continuously changing figure pretty much guarantee all us Kate watchers new clothes for her scheduled outings – hooray!

Today, Kate was resplendent in a grey Max Mara wrap dress which I was super excited to say was also my maternity wear of choice. For more details about the event, the dress or the jewellery, we recommend checking out Duchess Kate Style. I thought I’d point out and note some of the more quiet elements of the outfit we saw today.
The Shoes: Hooray that Kate has realized being pregnant does not mean shunning high heels – although it’s not like there was ever a doubt. I wore high heels up until I was 8 months pregnant, despite the concerns of many other women. If you have heard the old addage that expensive shoes don’t hurt your feet… I hate to say that it’s true. If you’re able to purchase a pair of good shoes, they won’t pinch or squeeze your feet until there’s no shoe in the world that won’t pinch/squeeze your feet which happens around 8.5 months pregnant.

The Modesty: It’s a well known fact that a lady’s bosom becomes… Um… More bosomy… When she’s pregnant. I loved that Kate decided to add a camisole underneath the dress in order to cover up her new assets rather than forgoing into a style which is not hers. During a time when everything else in your life is changing, I found it refreshing to not have to give up my own personal style thanks to things like wearing camisoles under pieces I already owned and could wear into the pregnancy.
The Hair: There is nothing new here, it looks as AMAZING as it normally does. Us mere mortals don’t even have a chance now that the pregnancy hormones have kicked in and her hair will be growing more and more lush with each passing day.
Her Behaviour: After watching a video of Kate at the event, I think it’s safe to say that she’s looking confident, happy and obviously more healthy. She did keep her hands protectively over the bump during the brief conversation, which I found myself also doing innately and without thinking about it. This other video from ITNSource shows Kate interacting with the children who gave her the flowers. Flawless, as ever.
The Ring: I could be reading WAY too far into this, but the ring that Kate was seen wearing on her right hand was identified as a ruby ring and it’s interesting that ruby is the traditional birthstone for July. A treat from William indicating the excitement of their upcoming child? A family heirloom with new meaning?
I can’t wait to see what the rest of this pregnancy will bring style wise! What did you all think?
Great post. I agree with your thoughts about her ring – I absolutely thought the rubies represented the month of July.It appears (via What Kate Wore and My Small Obsessions facebook pages) that this is an unidentified older ring she wore prior to being married, but there’s really not good info on it…She looks wonderful as usual. 🙂
Thanks for the update and comment Marie! Will have to tune in on the updates to the ring identification- If she’s had it for a long time maybe it has some family significance?
