It is no surprise that there are lots of women out there who love Kate’s style (Hello everyone who has ever visited this website) but what did surprise me lately was as I was flipping through InStyle‘s October 2013 issue and came across a column by Diane von Furstenberg where she lists the women that inspire her. Women like Marlene Dietrich, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jacqueline Onassis and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. Why did Kate being on this list surprise me? Because seriously fabulous and fashionable women like DVF are now using Kate as an inspiration in their designing. How cool is that!
Diane von Furstenberg is perhaps best known for her ubiquitous wrap dress and is an American style legend. If you’ve never worn one of her pieces before, friends, you are missing out. They are cut to flatter and yet still be comfortable. Ms. von Furstenberg (who was once a Princess, herself) summed up Kate’s look in a very concise way which I thought was one of the best ways I’ve heard it put:
“Kate is fresh and polished without being boring.”
In case you don’t remember, Kate has worn DVF before. Here’s one of my all-time favorite Kate looks, wearing a green DVF dress.

Here are some of my favorite DVF looks that are now even more exciting seeing as they were inspired by Kate herself!

Honestly, most these don’t look much like Kate to me. Short hemlines, overly fitted silhouettes…non traditional shapes…some are reminiscent of her style but the photos could have been curated down to a much smaller selection, in my opinion. However I agree that the green dress was a great look.
Hi B! I agree that these models are not representative of Kate’s style, but I think the dresses are. Lately, designers have been modeling super-short hemlines in photographs, when in reality most of these dresses are a modest knee-length. Also, Kate’s looser/less fitted dresses are because she tends to size up. If you sized up in these dresses, you would get that classic, more modest fit.
So, I believe the dresses are definitely Kate-like but the models are NOT!
And the green dress was a fantastic look 🙂
