Friday, Kate wow-ed the world at an official engagement at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The woman played volleyball in five inch wedges! As Caity (@CambridgeWatch) on Twitter pointed out, most of us can’t even play volleyball in flat shoes! The event brought a great spotlight on the Duchess of Cambridge’s love of sports, the fabulous work that SportsAid does, and the success and abilities of the athletes in the program. Yet the shot seen round the world was one of Kate’s tight and toned body.

We don’t often discuss Kate’s weight on WWKD, but this was an amazing phenomenon. In the course of two seconds, Kate’s Ralph Lauren breton striped t-shirt inched up a little bit and the cameras clicked a million times. It was unintentional, and probably quite embarrassing for the Duchess, but for everyone else it was absolutely inspirational. Hundreds of women tweeted about it, some making jokes, but even more of those women saying this inspired them to make changes. Some of us went for a jog, while others fixed a healthy lunch. Instead of biscuit cake, we had an apple. Instead of watching TV, we went for a walk.
I’m not sure why it took this instance for us to notice the dedication Kate has to health and fitness – perhaps because we expected her to struggle with her post-baby body like so many other women. But in that split second of spiking the volleyball, she changed a lot of minds, hearts, and eating habits. Kate has always been very slender, active and health-conscious, and since she inspires our outfits, make-up, and lifestyle choices, maybe she should inspire our body choices too.
These are a few of our favorite tweets on the subject, both silly and inspirational:
