We can try as hard as we want to look as classy and as sophistiKATEd (incorrect spelling very much intended) as our Duchess with our well chosen clothes but sometimes, all we need to perk up an outfit is a few cute accessories. I’ve always admired Kate for how she’s able to make an otherwise simple yet young and fashionable outfit look like she’s really gone to town just by adding a few finishing touches here and there – she was after all an accessories buyer for Jigsaw! So here’s a few bits and pieces from Kate’s recent outings with a where to buy guide for those who feel like investing which can be found on Polyvore here.
First things first, Kate’s lovely citrine drop earrings, most recently seen at young Prince George’s christening last month. Perfect with an ivory colour like she wore at the christening, these can also look stunning against dark hair with a formal black evening gown. They’re elegant and draw attention upwards without taking it all away from the rest of the outfit. I’m not a big advocate of wearing huge amounts of jewellery and neither is Kate – one or two pieces are all you need.
Staying on the jewellery front, one of my most favourite pieces worn by Kate was on her first official trip out after giving birth, to a gala dinner held by the Tusk Foundation. Paired with her absolutely beautiful floor length Jenny Packham sequinned gown, was the most perfect bracelet I’ve ever seen, given to her by Prince Charles upon her and Will’s wedding back in 2011, which is believed to be part of set featuring matching earrings, a ring, a necklace and tiara as well. Too many accessories with this dress could have been too much but she managed to pull off an equally beautiful bracelet which shone just as much as the dress.
Ok, I’m counting shoes as accessories today, don’t ask why, but on a recent trip the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Kate wore some fantastic navy Russell & Bromley wedges with the rest of her navy-themed attire (which looked fabulous against her engagement ring, might I add). Again, she managed to turn what would have been a very casual outfit into something a little more formal and STILL managed to play a game of volleyball in them.
Another thing I always watch out for when Kate is out and about is a beautiful clutch to carry her essentials in. I always gravitate towards Kate’s ivory or black clutches, partly because they seem to go with absolutely everything. Investing in a great clutch is much like a house in my opinion – it should see you through everything and if you don’t love with it within three seconds, then don’t buy it.
