This past week, I counted not one, but three, women celebrities posting photos on Instagram missing major parts of their clothing exposing or alluding at very private parts of their bodies for the whole world to see. These photos not only made it to the popular page of Instagram, but were talked about by all the major tabloid media. Sure, sure, no one asked these celebrities to be role models for the young and impressionable; but, whether they like it or not, they are.
I hate to be that person, but really, what happen to our values and self respect these days? I get that these women are trying to be edgy and attention worthy, but what ever happen to getting attention for the good things you do, not just exposing your body? As a women, I want to be supportive of all other women, but I’ve never really cared about the way people look or how they present themselves, but more about the way they act and their character. So I find it hard to rally behind people that are using their bodies as a source of pride versus what they are contributing to the world.
That’s why I’m so thankful for the Duchess of Cambridge. Not only is Kate a wonderful role model for women of all ages in the good work that she does, but she’s a powerful example to young women of how they can present themselves to the world in an alluring, yet respectful manner. As a mentor to an 11-year-old girl, and aunt and older cousin, I also try to set this example of self-respect based on my character, because looks will fade and your character is something no one can take away.

Yes, most every headline about Kate is regarding her fashion and the media is doing it’s best to objectify her as well. But through it all, Kate is not letting them. She keeps the focus on her charitable acts and strong character by presenting herself in respectful manner. I’m so appreciative of her doing this; it must be hard work not making a misstep. I really hope through all the glamor and gorgeous hairstyles, the world is picking up on this. I know I can’t be the only one who proud of this small movement Kate is making and the giant impact it is having for women and girls everywhere.
