This past weekend, it was revealed that Kate and George joined the Middleton family on their annual holiday to Mustique. The Middleton family takes the trip practically every year, to celebrate either Kate or Carole’s January birthdays (or both!). This year, little Prince George joined the family while William stayed back in Cambridge to continue his studies.

Here at WWKD, we love holidays. In fact, as I write this I am packing for my own warm escape. Most of us don’t jet off to Mustique to catch the sun, but the lucky few take advantage of the gorgeous escape. Since this trip is an annual occurrence for Kate, we wonder – what does Kate do on these holidays? Where is she staying? And, most often, what is she wearing?
The Where
In 2012, it was reported that the Middletons, Kate, and William rented Villa Aurora for their annual retreat. The villa is one of the island’s best, boasting a $19,000 price tag. The price includes the 3 bedroom villa, a butler, a chef, a housekeeper, a maid, a gardener, 2 kawasaki mules, and all amenities. When you calculate the price divided by the maximum six (and sometimes up to eight) guests, it is a rather affordable vacation.
The main attraction of Villa Aurora, aside from the beautiful views and Caribbean architecture is the Jasmine Cottage on site. The cottage is on the Villa Aurora property but retains its own pool, chef, housekeeper and private entrance. It is believed that Kate and William stayed at Jasmine Cottage while the Middleton Family stayed at the main house at Villa Aurora.
The Middleton family have been in love with Mustique for many years. The island was once the ultimate in quiet opulence, hosting some of the world’s most elegant and glamorous players. Over the past fifty years, the Caribbean retreat has become host to dozens of the most beautiful, secluded, and luxurious villas.
Mustique is located in the Grenadines, a part of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It sits in the Caribbean sea between St. Lucia and Grenada. The island boasts crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches paired with lush, untouched landscapes and rain forest appeal.
The What

So, what do the glamorous royals and their families do on these trips? The main purpose is to relax and escape. The island is renowned for its privacy, making it an (almost) perfect place to hide from the glaring media lens. While Kate probably enjoys lounging on her sundeck working on her tan, or floating in the clear waters of the pool, Mustique boasts plenty of activities.
Kate loves to stay active, and there are plenty of fun, relaxing ways to stay fit on the island. Its rumored that the Middleton family, along with Kate and William, had daily yoga lessons from the island’s instructor during one annual visit. The family got out their mats and Downward Dog-ed along with the cool Caribbean waves (hehe – William doing yoga!) Kate can also enjoy the rain forest hikes, walks along the beach, tennis courts, bicycling trails, and ocean swims to keep in tip top bikini shape.
If they were more keen to relax, the island boasts a spa – just in case the miles of secluded beaches didn’t relax you enough.
There are also a few shops, bars, and restaurants to enjoy in Mustique. William and Kate have been known to visit the world famous Basil’s Bar or to grab dinner at a local eatery.
The Wear
One of the most popular requests on WWKD is what to wear on vacation. People ask us what Kate would wear on an island getaway, or a weekend holiday on the beach.
Mustique is the perfect place to wander around in your bikini all day long. Kate is a fan of classic style bikinis – halter tops and bikini style bottoms. She doesn’t often choose the triangle top or string tie bottom, but sticks to classic styles and leans away from prints.
For more formal occasions on the island, Kate would pair her J. Brand 811 ankle cropped jeans with a breezy, comfortable top and her beloved wedges. This outfit would be great for a party at a friend’s villa or an evening spent at Basil’s bar.
But most of the time, Kate would probably throw on one of her favorite sundresses. Something feminine, flattering, and easy is perfect for strolling the beaches, visiting with family, and enjoying the warm weather.
What do you think? Will you be visiting Mustique to holiday just like Kate?
