Kate minus the HRH – What might have been

As I get older, I find my mind drifting often to the “what if I had…” daydream every now and again. What if I had married someone different, what if I had picked up and moved across the world, what if I had married my high school sweetheart… All valid questions one asks, but I imagine one that Kate also finds herself asking – despite her obvious good fortune in how her life has progressed.

What would life be like for Kate if she had chosen to go separate ways from William when they broke up in 2007? I imagine that after long and exhausting days of being scrutinized for every move and after vacations with privacy intrusions becoming the norm that this may be something Kate’s mind shifts to. What would life be like for Kate if she had not become HRH Catherine?

The easiest and most obvious answer is to look to her sister, Pippa. Pippa has had the same childhood and been raised the same way as Kate and while looking at her now also accounts for her sister’s social status, looking at her method of dress and style belies someone with more freedom than Kate and therefore someone we can only imagine how she might dress if the tides were different. Kate and Pippa not only share a close sisterly bond, but also have been reported to share clothes and looking at their styles obviously share the same tastes. While Pippa can get away with more “adventurous” styles than Kate, there are unmistakable similarities.

The social circles the girls run in is also very similar, sharing friends and acquaintances. Often pictured attending weddings together before Kate’s Royal title, it’s not inconceivable to think Kate would have continued to run around the same circles – I’m sure often finding herself face to face with William

This is why, if you’re looking for a glimpse into what Kate might have been like before the HRH title, it’s logical to look at her sister. It’s also a great source of fashion inspiration as Pippa often wears fun and fresh clothing which is affordable and attainable for all of us non-HRH types.
