After a morning at the National Maritime Museum supporting Team UK in the America’s Cup, Kate headed back to Kensington Palace for a quick Georgie snuggle and outfit change. Then, she headed to her third annual Queen’s Garden party at Buckingham Palace.
The Queen’s Garden Party is an annual tradition first started by Queen Victoria in the 1860s. Every summer, Her Majesty hosts at least three garden parties at Buckingham Palace and one at Holyrood House in Scotland. Today, the parties reward and recognize the wonderful accomplishments in public service from people from all walks of life
Each member of the Royal Family is expected to attend at least one Garden Party so guests are sure to meet someone very special! This year, Kate had initially planned to attend Thursday’s Garden Party for the Red Cross, but changed to today’s party at the last minute. Today’s festivities will celebrate Prince Philip’s 93rd birthday.
Each Garden Party hosts thousands of guests on the lawn of Buckingham Palace. According to the Official British Monarchy website, “around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake are consumed. Some 400 waiting staff are involved in the serving” at each party.
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a beautiful pink lace dress by Alexander McQueen, seen previously at the Jubilee Service at Westminster Abbey in 2012. The iconic dress got a fresh look by removing the belt and adding different accessories.
She accessorized with a custom ivory fascinator by Jane Corbett. The fascinator was designed specifically to match this McQueen dress. She also brought back her favorite Anoushka pearl drop earrings.
Kate’s shoes were also new today – a special treat for a shoe lover like myself. The ivory leather pumps featured a pointed toe, creating a very elegant look. Many were expecting her LKB’s or even the Russell and Bromley Park Ave, but you can never have too many neutral shoes! These nude pumps have not been IDed, but we will keep you updated.
