Welcome to My Royal Closet! Each month, take a look into a different closet that has been royally-inspired by Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a huge influence on our closets, and we want to share our favorite repliKates and outfits with you!
Meet Christine: Christine is the editor of WWKD and loves finding, IDing, and sharing Kate’s clothes and repliKates. She lives in Washington, D.C., which calls for flowy dresses in the summer and warm boots in the winter.
LK Bennett collection
Who doesn’t love Kate’s LK Bennetts? They have become iconic thanks to the Duchess. These three pairs (I have a few more) came home with me on a trip to London last year. I was shopping the Kings Road (just like Kate does!) when I came across the LK Bennett boutique. I went in and everything was glossy and bright. A shop assistant helped me try on about six different pairs of shoes before deciding on the Harper in Black Suede and Kid Leather and the Sledge in Taupe Patent. When I tried on the Sledge pumps, she looked at me and said “these are the ones the Duchess wears.” I smiled and said “I know.”
ASOS dress
It took me a very long time to give in and buy this dress! I absolutely loved this look on Kate, but the words “maternity” on the label completely threw me off. After searching for months and months for a repliKate with no luck, I decided I would have to buy the real deal. I checked the ASOS website every day for three weeks until finally – by some sheer miracle – the dress appeared in navy online in my size. It is a perfect dress for summer and I have worn it many times with many compliments!
Azuni earrings
I love almost every piece of jewelry Kate wears, but the big stones and glittery styles are often too much for my day-to-day life. When Kate wore these stunning Azuni earrings, I fell in love. I knew the blue stone would compliment me beautifully, and I always prefer yellow gold. The style was perfect for dressing up or dressing down, as Kate demonstrated. I was just about to order these from John Lewis when Azuni hosted a giveaway on Twitter. I entered, mostly to share the competition with my Twitter followers, and WON! It was one of the first things I ever won in my whole life. Nowadays, these earrings are my favorite go-to styles for every occasion.
TopShop dress
Kate wore this dress on her 25th birthday (and a few other times) and it was always one of my favorites. The cut of the dress is so cute and comfortable for my non-royal lifestyle. One day, I was looking around on eBay UK when I saw the dress for sale for £1. I bid on it immediately, and even with overseas shipping I spent less than $10 on it! I wore this dress to Westminster Abbey on my birthday, making it an extra special item of mine.
French Sole flats
These shoes were another pair I picked up in London. I went to the shop on Kings Road, near Bluebird, and wanted to try on a few pairs. I really had my heart set on a pair of French Sole flats. The shop assistants were less-than-helpful, which caused me to leave empty handed and very disappointed. The day went on, and just as the shops were closing I spotted the little French Sole boutique at Sloane Square. I went in and was given wonderful, one-on-one service. I spotted the sandals Pippa had worn a few weeks before, and imagined her and Kate popping into this very shop for a pair of shoes.
Oh my, the first part of my comment got erased!
Christine, what a wonderful article. I didn’t get to shop as you did on my trip to London as I was working there for 20 days, but it sounds like you had a lot of fun. I also favor the shoes:-) Your selections are wonderful. What a fun closet!!
I live in South America, so I got my LK Bennetts on eBay but I am a size 7, got 37s and they were too small:-(
They fit, but I have to wear hosiery and slide them in there, lol. I feel so pathetic doing that!
Are the French Soles really comfortable??
The French Sole flats are wonderful! I have had them nearly a year and they look like new and they are very comfortable. I found LK Bennett sizing to be all over the place! My Sledges are 38, my Harpers are 37.5, and my Suki flats are 38.5!
