With the holidays rapidly approaching (and with them the countless social engagements which go along with them), it’s no secret that every woman needs a glamorous and captivating dress in her wardrobe to deck the halls this busy and festive season. But what if, like our favourite Duchess, you are decking the halls with just water and sparkling juice as you’re expecting a little bundle of joy in the new year? This is yet another instance where we asked ourselves What Would Kate Do? and looked to the Duchess’ maternity styles from her pregnancy with Prince George to find some exciting holiday options for expectant mothers.
Style Tip #1: Stick with the Classics
One of the most poignant things about Kate’s maternity wardrobe, in our opinion, was how little she deviated from her usual look and fashion sense. She continued to favour long coats and dresses, high heels and dresses which showcased her bump rather than try and camouflage it. One of fashion’s oldest tricks for pregnant women is the wrap dress. Versatile enough to be tied a little looser or tighter depending on how you’re feeling that day and yet dressy enough to look like you’re ready to party.

Style Tip #2: Be a Little Wild
Kate wowed all of us when she showed up in a Dalmatian animal print coat from Hobbs for the christening of the Royal Princess cruise liner in June 2013, one of her last appearances before Prince George’s birth. We do not often see the Duchess wearing bold animal prints, and it was a refreshing choice for her at both the event and the juncture in her pregnancy. Since June 2013, we’ve seen many animal print ensembles make their way to retailers – animal print was a huge trend this fall season. A challenge for the expectant mother is that you’re likely to only wear the dress for one holiday season, so you don’t want to be spending a fortune – but this also means you can be more indulgent on some of the trends you’d otherwise not include in your wardrobe.

Style Tip #3: Be True to Yourself
When so much is changing in your life (and body) it’s comforting to still retain parts of your previous identity before being a “pregnant woman”. Take Kate when she continued to wear some of her non-pregnancy clothes well into her pregnancy – and every single other pregnant woman wondered how on earth she did it. Take a cue from the Duchess and wear pieces that are true to whatever style you had before you were pregnant. There is a new baby coming soon with priorities all of their own – so savour every last moment of embracing your true self… Whatever that may be!
