Welcome to My Royal Closet! Each month, take a look into a different closet that has been royally-inspired by Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a huge influence on our closets, and we want to share our favorite repliKates and outfits with you!
Meet Susannah: My love of Kate and all things British began when I studied abroad for 3 months in London during college. I was there in 2010 when Will and Kate announced their engagement, and I pulled a newspaper out of the tube station trash bin to keep as a souvenir of that historic day. Ever since then, I have modeled my style after her and attempted her own brand of grace and loveliness. It is my goal to see Kate in person one day, which I will hopefully accomplish this June either at Trooping the Colour or the Order of the Garter event. On the topic of fashion, while there, I plan to purchase a pair of nude heels from L. K. Bennett as the next addition to my royal closet. Chat with me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!
Barbour Jacket
I bought this jacket on sale from the Barbour store in the Heathrow airport in London. On a trip to China last January, I stopped on my way for a few days in London. I was actually there on Kate’s birthday. While there I went into Peter Jones, one of the big department stores, and later found out that Kate had been in the exact store only one day prior! Anyway, I thought the jacket would keep me very warm in China, and it did. It is such a great outdoorsy and classic piece. I love the picture of Kate wearing it while walking on the beach in Anglesey with William and Lupo.
Zara Cape
I wanted this ever since I saw Kate wear it when she was pregnant with George, and we could barely see her bump. I got it on Ebay in perfect condition. I feel so elegant, yet casual when I wear it. Just as Kate wore it to an official event, she also wears it to get coffee and shop. While it is a winter piece, it is not incredibly warm, which is perfect for the climate of my home in northwest Florida. I can layer sweaters under it, and sometimes I wear a scarf with it.
Sebago shoes
These are the most comfortable, casual shoes. I can see why the Duchess wears them so often. I’ve never worn boat shoes because with size 9 feet, they always looked huge on me. However, these have a slender style, so I feel dainty in them. They are also extremely lightweight and reasonably priced. I used a coupon on the Sebago website around Christmas this year, and they were only about $60.
Mappin & Webb RepliKate Necklace
This Mappin & Webb “Empress Mini Pendant” repliKate necklace I had custom-made at a local jewelry store. It was a graduation gift from my parents. I thought the detail in this necklace was so beautiful. It works with most necklines of clothing. Kate has worn hers to several official events the past autumn—visiting the poppy installation at the Tower of London, meeting the president of Singapore, and attending Remembrance Sunday.
Royal Wedding RepliKate Earrings
My mom surprised me with these repliKate earrings of the ones Kate wore on her wedding day. She found them at Claire’s, the accessories store. They were such a find! I wear them on every Kate high holiday- her birthday, their anniversary, etc. They are also great earrings for dressy occasions.
Gorgeous collection Susannah! I love that you pulled a newspaper out of the garbage to commemorate the Royal Engagement — I would have done the very same! And what a steal to get those Sebagos for $60 (and I’ve long been searching for a reasonably priced Zara cape on eBay — lucky girl to have snagged one in prime condition)!
Sed Bona
