Who was surprised to see the Duchess of Cambridge looking utterly fantastic at the Polo last Sunday, a mere six weeks post-partum? No? Me neither. Kate’s trim figure certainly ranks up there as part of her look many of us would love to RepliKate. But this isn’t yet another article about doing the exact exercises that Kate does or is rumored to do. We’ve all been around the block enough to know that one size doesn’t fit all and just because something worked for our dear Duchess doesn’t mean it will work for you or me. However, having a fitness mindset like Kate is a great starting place for better health and fitness.
Make Play Work
The saying goes that if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life. The same can be said of fitness: if you are having fun while getting fit, it won’t feel like drudgery. Kate has always been a sporty girl, growing up playing field hockey and tennis. Look around and you’ll find that many sports have adult rec leagues that you can join to get fit while having fun.
Mix it Up
Do you ever notice that we don’t hear of Kate doing the same thing over and over (like Pippa’s Pilates)? That’s because the Duchess has mastered one of the best boredom-busting fitness strategies – keep it interesting! Even if you love an activity or sport, burnout isn’t just likely, it’s inevitable. By mixing up her routine, Kate not only gets ahead of the doldrums, but also keeps her muscles guessing and improving (another great reason to get outside your comfort zone).
Don’t Go it Alone
Everything is better with friends, and fitness is no exception! We may not see Kate breaking a sweat with her friends as we did in her rowing days, but my guess is that she has more than a few workout buddies among her loyal friends!
See the Big Picture
Even when we saw Kate at her slimmest – around the time of the Royal Wedding – there was no single shocking moment: “OMGoodness, what has she been doing?!” That’s because fitness isn’t a quick fix for the Duchess but, rather, a long-term lifestyle proposition.
A fun and inspiring article, well done!
Thank you so much, Andrea!
