All About Princess Charlotte’s Christening

On Sunday, July 5, 2015, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge will be christened at St. Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham.

First Photos of Princess Charlotte of Cambridge with Prince George

The Princess: Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana will be baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury, who will make the trip to Norfolk especially for the event. Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.

The Outfit: In 2004, Queen Elizabeth II commissioned royal dressmaker Angela Kelly to recreate the historical christening gown used by Queen Victoria’s children. After 163 years, the original gown was not suitable for any more babies! Thus, a new gown was constructed as an exact replica. First worn by James, Viscount Severn, the christening gown has been using in all royal christenings since, including Prince George, Savannah and Isla Phillips, and most likely Mia Tindall. For George’s christening, Kate chose a cream Alexander McQueen outfit that resembled the ruffles and elegance of the christening gown. We expect a new outfit for Charlotte’s christening, perhaps in blush pink or yellow, and perhaps a new hat.

The Guests: Of course, William, Kate, George and Charlotte will be there. In addition, the guests will include Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince Charles, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Michael and Carole Middleton, Pippa Middleton, and James Middleton. You may note that Prince Harry is missing! He is expected to be on a charity trip in Africa, and will unfortunately miss the joyous occasion. Also in attendance will be Princess Charlotte’s godparents…

The Godparents: Prince George has seven godparents (plus their spouses), and we expect another seven for Princess Charlotte! Godparent may be a roleless-title for some, but these close friends and family will help raise Princess Charlotte and guide her through life. Our guesses are…

  • Peter and Autumn Philips, Zara’s brother and his wife
  • Tom and Missy van Straubanzee, a longtime friend of William and Catherine’s
  • Trinny Foyle, a longtime friend of Kate’s
  • Another van Cutsem, perhaps Hugh and Rose, whose daughter, Grace, was a flower girl at the Royal Wedding
  • Sarah McCorquodale, Princess Diana’s sister
  • Lady Louise or Viscount Severn, the children of the Earl and Countess of Wessex

St. Mary Magdalene's Sandringham Church

The Church: St. Mary Magdalene Church is the Church of England on the property of Sandringham, Her Majesty’s country estate. The Royal Family attends Christmas mass at the church every year, and The Queen attends services every Sunday she is in residence at Sandringham. The 16th century church was also the site of Diana, Princess of Wales’ christening in 1961.

The Well-Wishers: Members of the public are invited to greet the Royal Family as they make their way to the church. They are encouraged to bring flowers to the event – all flowers collected at the christening will be donated to East Anglia Children’s Hospices and will be given to children and families using the hospice care services. To attend, please arrive at St. Mary Magdalene Church at 3PM.

The Sandringham House

The Reception: All the guests will attend a low-key reception at Sandringham, rumored to be an afternoon tea-style affair. Prince George’s christening was also followed by a similar reception at Clarence House. During the reception, the official christening photographs will be taken by Mario Testino.

Check back on Sunday at 3BT/10ET/7PT for coverage of Princess Charlotte’s christening!

RepliKate Kate’s Casual Park Look

We were, like many of you, excited to see photos of Kate and George emerge from the park recently! Kate looked happy and relaxed, and her relaxed look is one that we immediately sought to repliKate. Some photos of the outing were found by @PackhamGown on Twitter:

We quickly identified the shirt as being from ZARA, a slightly older style:

In great news, the shirt is an extremely affordable repliKate coming in at $69.90 USD regular price, now on clearance for $39.99. We’ve discovered that some shirts are still available in store so you can call your local Zara stores and see if one is available near you.

If you can’t locate the shirt, don’t fret – there are lots of repliKates! Here are some of our favourites, at all kinds of different price points:

Shop Like The Duchess of Cambridge: Liberty of London

One of London’s oldest and most distinctive department stores is Liberty, and even though the Duchess of Cambridge hasn’t been spotted there, I’d be surprised if she’s a stranger to its hallowed halls.Liberty London (10)So, if you’re planning a trip to Regent Street to shop like Kate (see my last blog post here!), then you should definitely take the time to pop into Liberty, which is just around the corner, and is one of the most delightful pit stops you could make!Liberty London (1)One of the first things you need to do is make your way to the entranceway, where you’ll see a glorious display of seasonal blooms – perfect for a quick snap!Liberty London (2)Then make your way into the main hall, which is full of Liberty’s famous prints! The department store was founded in 1875, making this Liberty’s 140th year – hence the beautiful displays when I visited. In this area you can pick up scarves from loads of fabulous designers, including Alexander McQueen.Liberty London (3)Also, make sure to check out the millinery on the ground floor – there are always a great selection of hats and headdresses, perfect if you’re off to a summer wedding or maybe the races! The ground floor is also where you’ll find beauty, and Liberty prints on bags, stationery and other small items.Liberty London (6)Definitely make it a point to explore the downstairs area, as there are lots of opportunities to make small purchases, whether it’s some fantastic wrapping paper (no, seriously!), scented candles, or maybe some gorgeous or unique confectionery.Liberty London (9)The ground floor is also home to some luxury jewellery and designer bags, including wares from McQueen, Mulberry and Anya Hindmarch.Liberty London (4)Because Liberty is so small, and space is limited, the staff have to edit their wares concisely, meaning that you get the pick of the best from the latest collections from a range of incredible designers. There are very few places to window shop that are quite as much fun as Liberty! (And, so far, we’ve only begun to discuss the bottom floor – we’ll leave the rest of the store for you to discover when you visit! How’s that for incentive?!)

Visit the site at, and find the store’s main entrance on Great Marlborough Street, just off Regent Street.Liberty London (7)

My Royal Closet: Meet Faye!

Welcome to My Royal Closet! Each month, take a look into a different closet that has been royally-inspired by Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a huge influence on our closets, and we want to share our favorite repliKates and outfits with you!

Faye shows off her lovely Merci Maman necklace - one of her many repliKates!

Faye shows off her lovely Merci Maman necklace – one of her many repliKates!

Meet Faye: My name is Faye, I’m from Liverpool and I am currently studying Biology at a local university. On the day of the Royal wedding I went to my Nan’s house where she was watching the ceremony herself. Several family members came and went but all made the same comment along the lines of “Faye, you’re just like Kate with longer hair!” (My hair is now six inches shorter!) From that day onwards I have become a great fan of the Duchess and I really enjoy looking for Repli-Kates and try to imagine Kate wearing the items I buy. I also have my own pages dedicated to Kate on Instagram and Facebook which I regularly update. Say hi to Faye on Instagram and Facebook

L.K.Bennett Stila

L.K.Bennett-1L.K.Bennett is my favourite brand of all time worn by Kate. The pieces worn are so classic and elegant, including her Sledge shoes! It didn’t take long for me to decide that this had to be my first Repli-Kate, Kate is hardly seen without these shoes! I decided however to purchase the ‘Stila’ in-store and not the ‘Sledge’ as Kate’s style has a slightly higher heel. These shoes fit like a glove (with me being a UK size 2 it is very difficult for me to find a well-fitting shoe) and they are so comfortable! They can be paired with almost any outfit due to the neutral taupe colour and they are my go-to shoe as they are Kate’s!

Somerset by Alice Temperley Boat print Top
Alice Temperley Somerset-1

Alice Temperley is also a favourite brand of mine. When Kate wore the Boat print dress during her visit to Portsmouth, I fell in love with the piece instantly! The following weekend I went shopping in my local John Lewis store and came across the Somerset range in store. I fell in love with the top just as I had the dress! I decided to purchase the top as I would be able to wear it on several occasions, dressed up or dressed down. It is perfect as the piece gives a little nod to the dress that Kate wore however gives me a sense of still having my own sense of style. (Note: I have my Merci Maman necklace on here – another Repli-Kate!

Sebago ‘Bala’ Boat Shoes

Sebago shoes

I have always loved boat shoes so when I knew Kate also had a pair I had to have the same ones! I decided to purchase them online in navy instead of the taupe as previous boat shoes I have had in navy are very versatile. At the time of purchase, the shoes were reduced by 50% which was great! These shoes are so comfortable and it is easy to walk with them on in the warm weather! I pair these in very similar ways Kate does – with jeans and a t-shirt for a casual look.

Miss Selfridge Crepe Tulip Dress

Yellow Miss Selfridge Crepe Tulip Dress

I followed the Australia/New Zealand tour very closely in April 2014 and I fell in love with the yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress Kate wore when arriving in Australia. I instantly began my mission to find a convincing but affordable Repli-Kate and after a while I found this dress! The neckline is different and the dress does not feature the white sections that are on Kate’s dress, however the general look of the dress is the same as Kate’s. The dress was priced at a reasonable £39 which I was pleased with and I wore this dress quite often receiving many compliments! This dress can be worn casually or to an event too which is great.

Miss Selfridge Coats (Pale Pink Double Breasted Fit and Flare & Pale Blue Crepe Duster Coat)
CoatsI love all of Kate’s coats so I decided to find some Repli-Kates, again convincing but hopefully affordable. I found two coats and I could not choose between them so I purchased both! The pale pink Double Breasted Fit and Flare coat is VERY pale pink, in-fact online the coat is described as being ‘cream’ however I disagree with this description. The coat fits wonderfully and this is something I feel Kate would definitely wear (Editor’s note: It looks JUST like the many ivory coats Kate wore during pregnancy – Max Mara, Jojo Maman Bebe, etc!). It is the most formal out of the two as this coat is best suited with dresses and heeled shoes. The pale blue Crepe Duster Coat is a beautiful colour and I feel that it slightly resembles the Matthew Williamson coat which Kate wore to visit the Valero Oil Refinery. What I love about this coat is that it can be worn formally but also casually during the daytime.
