Welcome to My Royal Closet! Each month, take a look into a different closet that has been royally-inspired by Kate. The Duchess of Cambridge has been a huge influence on our closets, and we want to share our favorite repliKates and outfits with you!
Meet Emma: Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I am very excited to share with you a few pieces from my wardrobe! I am a preschool teacher in the California bay area. I love reading (Jane Austen, Harry Potter series and classics), watching TV (Once Upon A Time, Sherlock and Downton Abbey) and anything British! I remember growing up looking at books and pictures of Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Princess Diana… I loved the way their dresses looked and to me they were all like magical Princesses. My fascination with Kate started when she and William got engaged (When I was 6 I thought I was going to marry William…oh well… there’s still Harry! :P). Ever since then I started following what she wore. I remember staying up till 5:00am to watch the Royal Wedding and getting so excited to see her wedding dress. I again stayed up all night the evening they announced Kate had gone into labor with George! The same excitement came every time she would make an appearance or went on tour. To me it’s exciting to see what she is going to wear! I love Kate’s style because it’s so accessible to most people and is very chic. She is always so elegant and so well put together. She also seems to like blue and earthy colors in her wardrobe and so do I. I have also learned so much from watching Kate…what looks good, how to pair wardrobe pieces and fashion labels /names! Because I am a preschool teacher I rarely wear my Kate pieces to work… but when I do I am very careful! I was happy to find communities of lovely ladies who share my Kate fashion obsession…
L K Bennett “Avona” Clutch
I love this clutch!!! I was able to get it when LK Bennett was having a half off sale so I was very happy about that! It’s so sleek and – because of its nude color – so adaptable. It’s made of patent leather and has a little shine to it! I have used this clutch for church, weddings, graduation and just a nice night out. It came with a nice dust bag so I will hopefully be able to keep it new looking for a long time!
Zara Navy Polka Dot Shirt
I was happy to find this shirt on eBay one day. I really liked the outfit she wore the shirt with to the Olympics and wanted to recreate it as best I could! It’s rare but pops up from time to time. This is a very nice shirt and it’s so versatile – you can wear it with skinny jeans (like Kate) or with a skirt. The navy polka dots are so dark that they look black. I wore this with a black skirt and a red blazer and it was my skirt version of her Olympic outfit.
Jeager Yellow Cap Sleeve Shirtdress Dress
This was the second Kate piece I ever got (my first piece was actually the Great Planes Cezanne dress) and I was so excited to get it! The dress was sold out the first time I tried to get it but I was able to order it when it was restocked. It is still one of my favorite dresses that I own. There are buttons up the front of the dress and I love how it fits around the waist. I never thought yellow was a good color on me but I got lots of compliments on it!
French Connection “Tellin” dress
This dress is so confortable! This is one of my favorite weekend dresses and because it’s so comfortable I feel I can wear it anywhere! I call it my “retro Kate” dress! I have actually seen Repli-Kate’s of this dress online from time to time from different companies (like Calvin Kline) but decided to go for the real dress when I saw it listed… I got this on eBay and have not regretted it! I usually wear it with flats but sometimes wear it with small heels.
Hobbs “Wessex” Dress
This dress was one of my “holy grails”! I remember the first time I saw Kate wear this dress at the Olympic practices I knew I had to get it! It took me three years to finally get my hands on the actual dress! (This dress also comes in a blue striped pattern and I have also seen that pop up on eBay.) The fabric is very nice (linen) and is cool in hot weather. This dress pops up time to time on eBay and I was SOOO happy to be able to get it in my size! All the ladies who I have seen who have the dress also love it – and it’s actually really comfortable. This dress is good for the weekend or “dressy casual” days.
