If you’re in the United States, you’ve been hearing lots about the impending cold spell. Like it or not, winter is coming. It’s easy to sacrifice style for comfort and fall into a winter style slump, especially when you’re covered up in bulky layers. Kate, as usual, provides lots of inspiration for dressing warmly while looking great. Working your winter layers into part of your look instead of hiding beneath them is key. Follow these Kate winter style tips to add some life back into your cold-weather wardrobe.
1. Keep It Simple
We frequently see Kate wearing just two colors when she’s dressed for the cold weather outdoors. Keeping the outfit to one statement color, like a bright coat, and filling in the rest of the look with neutrals keeps the look clean and simple. This also helps a coat become more than an apparatus to stay warm—it’s a put-together outfit.
2. Keep It Tailored
When the temperatures get really low, it’s hard to avoid bulky, oversized coats. Take a tip from Kate and at least make sure they are perfectly fitted. She stays covered up and warm but still looks slim and never boxy because her coats fit well. She also cinches her coat with a belt whenever she can, accentuating her small waist.
3. Keep It Matching
It’s rare that Kate’s tights and shoes (and accessories, too!) don’t match for a winter outing. This has the effect of lengthening her legs and making her look taller. Lucky for her, she’s already quite tall! But for the rest of us, it’s a great tip to follow, especially when it’s necessary to wear a bulky coat. This, plus wearing heels, helps to avoid the drowning effect that can happen, especially to shorter people.
Excellent points, Bridget!
