Casual Kate

As I reviewed the photos of the recent tour of Bhutan and India, I realized, with some surprise, that my favorite outfit of Kate’s was actually her least elegant. Don’t get me wrong—she still looked elegant—but the pants-and-vest getup she wore hiking in Bhutan was decidedly her most casual outfit of the trip. Which got me thinking…why was I so drawn to this outfit? Is it because it’s more rare to see the Princess dressed down and casual? Or because it reminded me that she’s a regular person who wears jeans like I do? Probably some of each. Since it’s so nice to see a casual Kate, we’re going to look back at some of her best laid-back looks.

The Bhutan Hiking Outfit

I love the mix of casual and fashionable in this outfit. It’s not the leggings and hoodie many of us would opt for when hiking, but it looks comfortable, rugged, and perfect for the surroundings. It’s also always nice to see Kate wearing tried-and-true favorites we’ve seen her in before, like the vest and boots.

I loved so many of Kate’s London Olympics outfits that it’s hard to pick just one. They all epitomize sporty chic. There are so many wonderful photos of the Duchess smiling in a polo shirt, track jacket, and ponytail, looking at ease, and thoroughly enjoying herself. They show her at her most casual, relaxed, and happy, reminding us that she is sporty and at her most laid-back when cheering for the home team.

The utility pants, the hiking boots, the loose ponytail, and the color coordinating with William—what’s not to love? This outfit reminds me that the Duchess is not afraid to get her hands dirty and dress down when the occasion calls for it.

I love this look of Kate’s because it’s something that anyone can wear and be comfortable in, yet, it still looks put together. Kate has nailed the hands-on mom outfit, looking effortlessly casual and chic…and ready to romp in the grass with the kids at any second.

Scout Camp Visit

One of the things to love about Kate’s outfit choices is that she knows her occasion and her audience. Visiting a scout camp and sitting around a campfire with kids calls for a casual jacket, hat, and bandana. And like everything she wears, she wore it well.
