Royal Beauty Bag : Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick

August 2, 2016      Leave a Comment

I think it’s safe to assume that in all of the hundreds thousands of pictures of Kate that exist, we can all agree on one thing – her skin always looks amazing. It’s the ultimate combination of flawless perfection and dewy radiance that we all strive for when we get out of bed every morning. So how does she do it?

While arguably the biggest piece of the puzzle is in her skin care, there is also a hint about its provenance in the makeup line that Kate prefers and has used for years: Bobbi Brown. Bobbi has a great quote about skincare that surely appeals to all women, “The desire for great skin is an ageless one; it will never go out of style.”

Did you know that Bobbi Brown has one iconic product in their line that has achieved a level of cult-status that has translated into the fact that one of the products is sold every two minutes around the globe? Bobbi Brown’s Skin Foundation Stick is one of the top-selling items in the BB repertoire and undoubtedly a product that Kate would have used in her discovery of the brand.

The Foundation Stick was created by Bobbi herself over 25 years ago when she couldn’t find the flattering foundation coverage she as looking for. It was lauded as an instant success because it was a revolutionary new concept of being flattering and matched various skin tones at a time when most makeup was not geared that way. To top it off, the product is small and portable (perfect for modern women on the run!) and is user friendly. You don’t need years of training or a PhD in cosmetology to apply it – something that most foundations had needed up until that point!

I decided that I needed to try the little foundation stick after I watched a tutorial on Kate’s bridal makeup by her wedding day makeup artist, Hannah Martin. Here’s the video that triggered my decision.

I ordered the Foundation Stick and waited patiently (ha!) for it to arrive. Up until this point, I had been using Laura Mercier’s foundation and cover up products exclusively – and probably improperly. The eye concealer had morphed into an undereye/spot cover which it was never intended to do! I was looking forward to trying a new product for a quick and easy put together look. I also knew that I’d likely like the BB product as I was obsessed with her pink hued-shimmer brick (Article on that to follow!).

And did it disappoint? No! The foundation was creamy, covered really well and because there are so many combinations, was a perfect match for my skin. I actually was able to use the foundation stick as both concealer and light foundation where needed on my face – ensuring that I didn’t have that overly done makeup look that NO ONE wants.

So while I’m still working on perfecting my Duchess of Cambridge overall makeup look, this is a great start to a fresh, clean and radiant complexion that will definitely keep appearing in my beauty bag!
