Plaid vs. Tartan – Why Kate Loves the Checked Print

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, loves a good tartan. From scarves to dresses to d├ęcor, the plaid pattern is just so English country chic. Kate especially knows how to rock a tartan coat. Many North Americans may be curious about just what the difference is between a tartan and a plaid. Tartan is particularly associated with Scotland. Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns. Tartan is often called plaid in North America, but in Scotland, a plaid is a tartan cloth. The royal family has a long history of wearing tartans over the years.
