As the winter drags on for many of us, thoughts turn to warmer climates and escaping the cold. For that reason, spring break is a much-anticipated time of the year for students and non-students alike. We think Kate would definitely be interested in escaping the gray English skies for a spring break trip. Since we’ve been able to get a peek into some of the family getaways the Cambridges have taken (think the Seychelles honeymoon, Kate and George’s vacation to Mustique, and the trip to the Maldives), we think we know just where Kate would head for a trip: the beach! Since many of you are probably doing the same in the next couple months, here’s how to spring break like Kate.
What to Pack
If Kate knows anything about packing for a trip, it’s to pack for each individual occasion. A beach vacation might include activities that range from fancy dinners to hikes to boat outings. Kate is always dressed appropriately for an occasion and also isn’t afraid to be casual. Make sure to bring the beach staples: at least two swimsuits (Kate opts for bright, solid-colored bikinis), sunglasses (classic Ray Bans like Kate’s are always in style), a camera (hopefully you enjoy capturing moments with friends and family as much as she does!), and a hat or parasol to block the sun and protect your skin.
You can’t go wrong packing something like her Solomon Islands look: a sundress in a bright, tropical pattern and strappy wedges (perfect to avoid sinking into the sand). Also consider if you’ll be visiting any religious or solemn locations that might call for a more covered-up and respectful look (something Kate always gets right).
Getting There
Though some people opt for sweatpants and sneakers, we think a flight is no excuse to dress sloppily. Kate’s style here is perfect for flying. She wears a loose-fitting sweater (great for staying warm on cold planes), jeans (surely with stretch to stay comfortable in an uncomfortable airplane seat), and tennis shoes. Toss on a scarf (it adds color to her outfit and doubles as a pillow or blanket on the flight) and carry a sturdy, lightweight bag, like a Longchamp tote Kate has been seen traveling with (bonus: it folds up nice and small once you arrive at your destination).
Beach Beauty
A beach vacation is no time to be fussing with your hair or worrying about how it looks. It’s time for easy, breezy locks and embracing the natural texture of your hair, especially if you’re in a humid environment. Kate showed us all it’s OK to let the natural wave of your hair take center stage instead of worrying about the perfect blowout the whole trip. Throw a bottle of sea salt spray and some anti-frizz serum in your suitcase and focus on having fun instead of curling your hair. The same goes for makeup—keep the look light and bronzed. We recommend a tinted moisturizer with SPF, bronzer for a sun-kissed glow, lip balm, mascara, and a bit of rosy blush for a no-fuss daytime look.
Culture Club
Once you’re on vacation, do as the locals do as much as you can. Kate and William are often photographed visiting historical and cultural sites, participating in sports and activities, and making connections with local people. This can be one of the most rewarding parts of traveling. Even if you’re in your own country or not far from home, make a point to talk to the locals (start with a hotel employee and your waiter or waitress!) and try something new, like a new dish or a local beer or wine. The Duchess has traveled to foreign countries all over the world and it’s certain that she’s grown and learned from opening herself up to new experiences.
Key Pieces
Here are some of the key pieces that were mentioned in the post that make up Kate’s vacation look.
