The comparisons between Kate and Pippa’s wedding dresses were inevitable, but I think we can agree that they were both unique, gorgeous, and are bound to become iconic dresses in their own rights. Pippa looked amazing on her wedding day, and she showed off her unique bridal style. Her dress was bound to reflect her personal tastes, but I was pleasantly surprised by what she wore. While her dress was totally her own, I detected a few wedding style tips that she may have picked up from her big sister and applied to her own dress.
Bespoke Designer
Kate knew that all eyes would be on her when she walked down the aisle, so she couldn’t very well wear something off the rack. Pippa, now a bona fide celebrity and pseudo-royal herself, knew the same would be true for her. So, just like her sister, she sought out a high-profile designer—Giles Deacon—to work closely with to create a custom (and, more importantly, 100% unique) dress to her exact specifications.
Must Be Modest
One part of Pippa’s dress that surprised me was the higher neckline. It’s not a silhouette we’ve seen often from her. Then, I wondered if it was a reflection of something she’d learned from Kate. While Kate was obligated to wear a more modest dress in Westminster Abbey, I think that Pippa took a cue from this experience and opted for a more modest dress herself. While there’s nothing wrong with showing some skin that you’re comfortable with, I love that she went the classic, ladylike route for her wedding day.
Delicate Details
While both women wore modest dresses for their weddings, that does not mean they were boring—far from it! Kate’s Sarah Burton dress had sheer lace sleeves, a long sweeping train, and ruffled details at the waist in the back. Pippa’s dress featured all-over lace, a heart-shaped cutout on the back, and structured short sleeves. The beauty is definitely in the details!
Accentuate Assets
The Middleton sisters have always been in great shape, but they both committed to getting into amazing shape before their weddings. If you work for it, show it off! Kate’s dress was nipped in to show off her tiny waist, and the dress’s deep neckline showed off her slender neck and upper body. Pippa’s dress also fit her to a T, showing off her waist, and can we talk about those ARMS?! (I’m calling it now—Pippa’s arms will be the most requested things from trainers this year.) Neither of the Middletons had trouble spots to cover up, but they both knew what they wanted to highlight and did so.
To summarize, in case it wasn’t obvious, I absolutely loved Pippa’s dress! It was everything I loved about Kate’s regal, elegant style but modern and different—she nailed it. If only there were another royal wedding to look forward to soon… (Harry, I’m looking at you.)
[…] The two wedding dresses were both gorgeous in their own right, but certainly very different. Kate showed off some décolletage while Pippa decided that while only a select few were invited to her wedding (no ring, no bring) everyone was invited to the gun show. […]
