The Duchess of Cambridge loves wearing her squeaky white Superga 2750 Cotus – and it’s easy to see why. They’re a versatile and easy to wear shoe that’s comfortable, and always in style. But did you know you can dress these up as well as wear them with a more casual ensemble? In our Style Remix feature we’ll show you how to take an item that Kate’s worn previously which is still available to buy, and style it in a typical Kate-style, and then mix it up with some different suggestions that Kate probably wouldn’t wear!
The Superga 2750 Cotu Classics are available from a variety of retailers at the time of writing, including Coggles (UK), Zappos (US), DSW (US), Revolve (Global), All Sole (UK), Very Exclusive (UK) and Land’s End (US). Kate likes to wear these to sporting events, and their canvas uppers and rubber soles mean they’ve got a solid grip and are breathable and cool – perfect for when you’re getting active!
I selected this Me+Em breton top, as many Kate watchers are convinced it’s perfect for her. Firstly, she owns many other breton tops from the brand, and secondly, a portion of the proceeds of the sale of this top go to the 1851 Trust, the Official Charity of Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing, the British America’s Cup team, of which the Duchess is a patron. The thick navy stripe and thin red stripe add in an extra, interesting dimension for the style, and we know Kate isn’t shy when it comes to buying brand new breton tops! Coupled with a pair of classic J Brand skinny jeans like these from Bloomingdales, or these directly from J Brand, you can complete a standard ‘casual Kate’ uniform – and maybe even get the jump on other fans by buying in a top she might yet appear in early! Because of the red element of the top, I selected this fun bow bracelet from Ferragamo, a brand Kate has rarely been seen in, but which has a big presence on Sloane Street, the heart of designer shopping in London. Get a similar splash of colour on your arm from BaubleBar: they always have a great selection of gorgeous, bright bangles. Finally, to top it off, you’ll need a great pair of earrings, and these from Catherine Zoraida (available here and here) are some of my favourites.
My second look is a much trendier take on the Supergas – and I would be shocked if we ever saw Kate wearing something like this! But it shows how versatile these shoes are that you can actually dress them up for a look that’s smart and chic, by pairing them with a black pencil skirt and a classic white shirt. Go high street for the skirt here at ASOS, or push the boat out with this Roland Mouret number from Net A Porter. For shirts, I love this pleated-back number from ASOS, while this silk shirt from Equipment would add a touch of luxury to your wardrobe. Pair this basic ensemble with a dramatic red lip (from one of Kate’s favourite makeup brands, Bobbi Brown, Parisian Red is a good choice) and a gorgeous black quilted shoulder bag, and you’re rocking a polished look that shows off your style credentials. I love the drama of this Gucci Marmot bag (from Matches, here) as it reminds me of Kate’s quilted Jaeger bag years ago. Saint Laurent also have a gorgeous bag here, and Mulberry’s ever popular Lily is available here in mini size, for a more restrained designer flash. However, you don’t have to break the bank to get this look – I love ASOS’s chain-detail bag here, and Topshop has one on sale for just £12 here!
