We got to see a rare glimpse of the Cambridges’ home style when the Obamas visited Kensington Palace last year. Unsurprisingly, the décor was elegant, understated, and chic. Along with family photos and books, the drawing room was accessorized with art, throw pillows, candles, and softly-lit lamps. But even princes and princesses need a change every now and then. No one has time to completely redecorate frequently, but a new season is the perfect excuse to change it up a bit. What would Kate do to refresh her home for fall?
Throw Pillows
I think throw pillows are the oldest trick in the book. Why? Because they’re inexpensive, easy to swap, and can totally change the look of a room. They’re also a great way to incorporate a trendy color, fabric, or pattern that you don’t fully want to commit to. And there are lots of trends to try out this fall: shades of green (greenery is Pantone’s color of the year after all), that blush pink you’ve been seeing everywhere, and patterns, especially tropical and geometric prints. (Luckily, mixing patterns and colors is also in!) Kate would not constantly change a room or blindly follow trends, but I think she would absolutely be willing to freshen up her space with modern colors, styles, and prints for fall. Here are a few pieces I think she’d love to experiment with.

Texture
Nothing is more welcoming in colder weather than cozy, cuddly fabrics like velvet, knit, and fur (and faux fur, which is much more practical around kids). I think Kate would gladly welcome these temporary touches into her home for fall to make it an inviting environment. Blankets, pillows, rugs, and even furniture in these fabrics make the room feel warm and cozy, perfect for family movie night. Couldn’t you see George and Charlotte cuddled up with some of these accessories?

Metallic Accents
There were a number of elegant gold accents in the Duke and Duchess’ drawing room, like a small table, chairs, and picture frames. This is a classic color that is likely to remain a staple in the Cambridge household. However, using a variety of metals, especially popular ones like bronze and copper, is becoming a trend. And since mixing and matching is easy to do, I don’t see why Kate wouldn’t try her hand at adding a few accessories in a different finish.

If you’re looking to refresh your own space for fall, remember to do what Kate would do. Choose things you’ll love for more than one season. Don’t blindly follow trends. And stay true to your style.
