The Duchess of Cambridge made her first public appearance since announcing her third pregnancy at a reception marking World Mental Health Day. Along with Prince William and Prince Harry, Kate attended a reception honoring those who work to raise awareness for mental health.
William, Kate, and Harry celebrated the UK’s mental health champions; people and organizations who tirelessly work to raise awareness and support for those suffering from mental health issues. At the reception, they were able to personally meet and discuss the successes and issues surrounding mental health.
The event was a celebration of “decades of tireless campaigning; after thousands of people have given their time and energy; and after many brave individuals have had the courage to come forward and share their stories, mental health is no longer a Cinderella issue,” as Prince William said in a speech this evening.
Over the past year, the Cambridges and Prince Harry have made mental health the focus of their charitable pursuits. They formed the Heads Together project earlier this year, which we learned tonight was the brainchild of Catherine and her former private secretary, Rebecca Deacon.
Knowing that Kate was the creator behind the program was an interesting development in her charity work. She is clearly very passionate about raising awareness for mental health, and developed the Heads Together program when she realised that she, William, and Harry were all passionate about causes that revolved around mental health awareness.
This was Catherine’s first official event since announcing her third pregnancy in September. An aide said that the Duchess was still suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, so we were very pleased to see she felt well enough to attend tonight’s event.
At tonight’s reception, the Duchess debuted the tiniest baby bump in a powder blue dress by Temperley London. The “Eclipse” dress was “inspired by Elizabethan and Baroque portraits of ladies wearing high necklines and ruffles.”
Catherine accessorized with her trusty Gianvito Rossi pumps in black suede. She wore sparkly blue topaz earrings from Kiki McDonough and carried a Mulberry clutch bag.
We hope to see the Duchess again soon!
I’m so happy that you all focus more on what Kate is doing for her chairities on your arrivals, then just what she is wearing. I’m so glad she was feeling good enough to attend such an important event. Mental health is very close to my heart and I love the work she does to de-stigmatize talking about mental illness.
Thanks for your comment, Sarah! We do try to focus on Kate’s work, family, and lifestyle and appreciate your kind words! We are also impressed and touched by Kate’s dedication to ending the stigma against mental health.
