There’s nothing more exciting than a new member of the Royal Family – even more so when that new member affords plenty more opportunities for royal fashion! Meghan Markle, whose wedding to Prince Harry in May will be one of the highlights of the royal watchers’ calendar this year, has made a splash recently thanks to her cool, chic style, and crowd-pleasing, charismatic personality. Kate and Meghan’s styles are very different, with Kate’s classic, Sloaney style contrasting with Meghan’s effortless, Hollywood fashion. But no doubt the soon will be sharing style tips – or maybe even swapping items the way Kate has done with her sister and mother! With that in mind, this style remix post takes two of Meghan’s biggest recent fashion hits (which are still available to preorder!) and imagines how Kate would style them in her wardrobe!
First up is the DeMellier Mini Venice in forest grain (available to preorder here). With a top handle and a solid leather crossbody strap, the Mini Venice is more of a casual bag than we usually see Kate with, but Meghan made hers look more formal by carrying it by the top strap, which would be a great choice for Kate. The leather tassel is a gorgeous design feature and echoes The Marcie bag from Chloe (also a designer that’s a favourite of Meghan’s for accessories!). DeMellier also donates life-saving vaccines with charity partners SOS Children’s Villages for every bag purchased.
The second bag is the Strathberry East/West Mini in bottle green (available to preorder here). With its chain strap that can be worn long as a crossbody (as Meghan did in Edinburgh when she first appeared with the bag), or doubled up as a shoulder bag, this is a versatile, stylish accessory with Strathberry’s signature bar closure making an interesting design feature. Founded in 2013, Strathberry is a relatively new Scottish company, and we have our fingers crossed that Kate, in her role as The Countess of Strathearn in Scotland, might carry a bag from their line one day! Meghan has also previously worn the Strathberry Midi Tote (range here) in tricolour navy, burgundy and vanilla (exact style restocking here).
For the first look in this style remix, we’ve gone for a classic casual look from Kate – skinny jeans, mixed with Breton tops and those chic white Supergas. Keeping it simple with accessories, we’ve added in those elegant Grace studs and a slick of nude lipstick courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury’s Kate-inspired shade, The Duchess, available here.
Kate’s Supergas are the White 2750 Cotu Classics, available from Urban Outfitters, Zappos, Allsole, and Very Exclusive. Kate’s Grace Stud earrings available from Kiki McDonough here. We found some good replikates from Next here (for £16), or Beaverbrooks’ version (£50) which we can definitely recommend! For Bretons, Kate often turns to Me+Em, but we’ve selected some alternatives from Boden for £28 here. After Kate recently appeared in the brand’s bright red Lena coat (still available here or here), we wonder if she may have filled her basket at the same time with some other items! For skinny jeans, Kate’s not adverse to shopping at Zara, but one of her favourite styles is J Brand’s 811s, available here in black, or here in the cropped Anya style in a variety of colours.
The next look channels her airport style – a breezy off-duty look that incorporates snug knits and chic accessories to look effortlessly stylish even after hours on a plane! We selected this Temperley London Spiral Printed Scarf in Cinnamon Mix to contrast with the bottle green of the Strathberry. The scarf will look gorgeous draped around the neck of this Next Cable Sweater (a very affordable £34!). Kate’s Monica Siren Wire earrings (£135) are available here and pick up the green of the bag – plus, they’re as beautiful in real life as they are in the picture! And finally, topping off the look is a trusty pair of LK Bennett nude pumps – Kate’s current favourites are the Fern in trench. (You can currently get 20% off this style in the UK with the code FEB20.)
So, are we likely to see Kate wearing any of the DeMellier or Strathberry styles? Well, her favourite accessory to carry has always been the clutch, so if we were going to pick anything from their ranges, it would be the Strathberry Mini Crescent (£395), available here. What do you think?
