One of our most popular topics on WWKD is beauty, which comes as no surprise – Kate is flawlessly gorgeous, with a natural, down-to-earth appearance that we would all love to attain. While we have heard rumors about plenty of Kate’s favorite beauty products, many readers were interested to learn that Kate’s beauty routine took a natural turn when she became a mum.
We chatted with our friend, Julia Wykoff, about her experiences in motherhood, cleanc beauty, and how we can get that same glow with beauty and skincare products that are safe for women, whether you’re a countryside mum with a baby or a single girl living in London and dealing with pollution.

Julia is an American-based attorney and Beautycounter consultant, with an arsenal of knowledge about safe and natural beauty. She has a sweet son who is slightly older than Prince Louis and another one on the way, who will be slightly younger than Baby Sussex! Julia lives a royally-inspired lifestyle, and is here to share her experiences with clean skincare, inspired by Kate.
It’s no secret that Duchess Kate values health, wellness, and fitness. Kate embodies a holistic and well-rounded lifestyle when it comes to what she eats, how she exercises, and even the products that she’s known to use daily.
While Kate was pregnant and nursing, she reportedly used an all-natural skin care regiment. While pregnant with Princess Charlotte, US Weekly reported that Kate used Trilogy Rose Hip Oil, an organic, instant fix for dehydrated, rough skin. Additionally, Kate cut back on chemical treatments for her hair, opting for vegetable dyes instead of chemical-based treatments.
When I became pregnant with my first child, I immediately followed Kate’s suit in pursuit of safe, yet effective, skincare and makeup products. Like most newly-pregnant mothers, my skin took a downward spiral in my first trimester, and I immediately reached for acne creams from my medicine cabinet. After bringing it up with my doctor, she promptly advised me not to use many readily-available skincare products, because they simply weren’t safe for pregnancy.
This was completely new to me. If I can go buy this product at the store, how is it not safe to use?
My research led me to some alarming statistics – the United States has only partially banned 30 chemicals in product formulas of personal care products, and the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. Today in America, companies are allowed to call something “natural”, “botanical”, which means nothing in an industry that is mostly self-regulated. Heavy metals are in our makeup, even the mineral-based ones. As a new mom, this was shocking to me!
My quest to live a healthy, Kate-inspired life, led me to Beautycounter. Beautycounter is committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what is required by United States law. Beautycounter prohibits the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals, set forth in their “Never List.” Not only does Beautycounter advocate for change in the beauty industry, but their products perform and are as indulgent as any high-end product in the market.
We asked Julia to share her favorite clean beauty products! So, what might Kate purchase from Beautycounter?
